More information
Even though Šuminai Village, known for figuring prominently in the legendary film about Tadas Blinda, is currently home to only 15 people, it boasts a fisherman’s house-museum, a 300 year old pine, and lots of maples tree, which make for an astounding view come autumn.

Named after the Šuminai family, whose descendants reside here to this day, the Šuminai Village was first mentioned in historical records in 1784 under the name Pabaluošė. However, it’s likely that the very first homestead was built here much earlier, as the village was attached to the Ažvinčiai Manor from as far back as 1554. Upon arriving at Šuminai, you’ll have the wonderful opportunity to explore a rustic fisherman’s house-museum, several unique threshing barns and other traditional buildings, and door hinges of extremely rare make, as well as to gaze in amazement at a 300 year old pine tree, protected by the state as part of Lithuania’s natural heritage. In addition, the village, referred to as the Village of the Seven Homesteads, has been included in the Cultural Heritage Register. That being said, the main reason why Šuminai is such a popular weekend destination is because it was among the key sites during the shooting of the legendary 1972 film about Tada Blinda, directed by Balys Bratkauskas.
