Ąžuolija Botanical-Zoological Reserve Trail
The Ąžuolija Botanical-Zoological Reserve Trail features 15 individual stations. In 2022, these were equipped with 14 information stands to enrich the overall hiking experience. These characterise not only their immediate surroundings, but also provide some fascinating information about the unique features of the Ąžuolija forest. The trail itself, stretching along the Vieša Creek, is linear, which means that, once you’ve reached the end, you’ll have to retrace your steps back. The steeper sections have wooden railings, and crossing the creek is made easier by a series of bridges. Walking along the trail you’ll have the opportunity to experience truly wild nature – and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some of the rare plant and animal species. Keep in mind, however, that since the trail is located in a primaeval forest, you’ll sometimes have to climb over fallen trees, walk around flooded ground, climb up the inclined banks of Vieša Creek, and face other similar challenges. If you don’t find those intimidating, a hike along this 1.6 km trail is a fantastic way to get some exercise on a weekend afternoon!
