Located in Aukštaitija National Park, in the district of Utena, Tauragnas is the deepest lake in Lithuania. Experienced swimmers here like to take on the challenge of swimming to the peninsula in the middle of the lake to enjoy the view of Taurapilis – one of the country’s tallest hill forts. On the shore you’ll find 3 large gazebos, lots of comfy outdoor furniture, a beach volleyball court, and a playground. Utena District has 185 lakes and 33 supervised swimming areas. When it comes to lakes in Utena, you have plenty to choose from, as some are located in the town itself, while others are tucked away in the forest or next to one of the numerous rural cabins open to locals and tourists alike.
Lake Alauša is a draw for locals and tourists alike, primarily because of its clean water, beautiful landscape, and well-equipped bathing facilities. On its wide and sandy beach you’ll have free access to several comfy gazebos, playgrounds, sports grounds, an outdoor gym, and a boat and hydrocycle rental. Thanks to its gradually sloping bottom, the beach is perfect for families with children.
What makes the beach of Lake Dauniškis is that it’s located smack dab in the middle of Utena city, right next to the usual conveniences of civilization. The lake with its clear water and stretch of fluffy sand is surrounded by a snaking nature trail, equipped with comfortable benches, a neatly kept lawn and other vegetation, as well as cosy lighting that comes on in the evening. Lying down on the sand, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy the show put on by the singing fountain on the shore.
