In the eastern part of the country, where hills and ravines are thickly covered with mystical woods and intricate river systems, those looking for solitude are primarily drawn to the region’s numerous lakes, of which there are rumoured to be more than 200! In addition, the face of Ignalina is peppered with fairytale-like rural cabins located in its most breathtaking areas, such as the shores of lakes Dringis, Lūšiai, and Palūšė, or the Baluošai Landscape Reserve. The urban beach of Ignalina city has something for everyone: a large bathing area, water slide, comfortable bridge, an outdoor gym, a beach volleyball court, a swing for children, a barbecue grill zone, and a nearby meadow perfect for a picnic. If you feel like taking a walk – leave your footwear behind and set off on the 500+ metre wellness trail Basom Kojom (Barefoot Walking). The beach located on the shore of Lake Lūšiai has been recognised by many as one of the best in all of Aukštaitija National Park. Soft, fluffy sand, a gradually sloping lake bottom, a changing room, a visitor’s centre, public bathrooms, campsite, trash cans, and numerous benches – everything you need for some peace and quiet in natural surroundings. Nearby you’ll also find a botanical garden, a car park, and several small cafes and shops.
