Wherever you cast an eye, there’s probably going to be a lake in the vicinity. That’s why Zarasai is popularly known as Lake Country. In the summer, its 305 lakes call on locals and visitors alike to breathe in the still and silent air, wade into the refreshing, crystalline waters, and feel as if time has stopped, if only for a moment.
Lake Zarasaitis features an open-air swimming pool and a 10 metre-tall diving platform, while the local wakeboarding park is great both for regular bathing and for adrenaline-pumping action. Sartai Lake, for its part, is famous primarily for its winter-time horse races, but is well worth a visit in the summer too, as it features an outdoor gym, free changing rooms, and a beach-side swingset. Peppered around the lakes you’ll also find lots of cosy rural cabins – perfect for spending a night. Didžiosios Salos (Big Island) Beach has two water parks, several public bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms. It also affords a beautiful view of the nearby town. In addition, close by you’ll find basketball and volleyball courts, as well as multiple restaurants and places of accommodation in case you decide to stay overnight. The beach of Lake Zarasaitis is a veritable mecca of outdoor recreation. Here you’ll find, among other things: an open-air pool with swimming tracks, water polo and beach volleyball courts, a boat and canoe rental, a foosball table, and Lithuania’s sole 10-metre-tall diving platform. During summer, the beach of Lake Sartai offers a meadowy shore tipped with a stretch of golden sand that has multiple changing rooms, a swing, an outdoor gym, and plenty of benches to sit down and relax on. The holiday resort Sartai also offers several bridges, convenient for diving into the water headfirst, and a grill zone equipped with barbecue grills and campfires.
