Lake Sartai
lakes
lakes in Aukštaitija
Every Lithuanian knows Lake Sartai. For them, it is primarily associated with the famous trotting horse races annually held at the local hippodrome in Dusetai village. However, Sartai is a worthwhile visit not just for equestrian sports enthusiasts. It's a special place that nature lovers will quickly fall in love with.
Sartai is the fourth largest lake in Lithuania. But it stands out even more because of its shape, reminiscent of a branching tree. If you were to walk along its shoreline, the distance would amount to approximately 80 km. Here, hiking enthusiasts will find perfect conditions for an unforgettable trip through forests, plains, and hills.
It's also essential to try out the water activities it has on offer. The most impressive experience would be a boat trip to the Sartai islands. One of them – Dumblynė – is still inhabited. It is believed that people first settled here at the beginning of the first millennium, and archaeologists have discovered numerous valuable artifacts.
