Looking to escape the bustle of the centre and get in touch with a more soulful and meditative vibe. On the outskirts of the city, you'll discover the bucolic wonder of Verkai Manor and regional park. Set within picturesque grounds that border both lush forest and the banks of the River Neris, you can get in touch with both the country’s rich history and its spiritual heart. The park is unquestionably most famous for the 7 kilometer Way of the Cross that encompasses 35 stations: 19 stone chapels, 7 wooden gates, 1 stone gate, a wooden bridge over the Cedronas (Baltupis) Creek and a chapel standing on it, as well as the Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross that marks the end of this religious trail. Along the path, you’ll encounter fresh springs which, as local legend would have it, offer curative properties, as well as a multitude of pretty views, and hopefully a moment or two of spiritual contemplation. That is only part of the picture, on the steep slope of Verkiai Hill, you’ll find impressive 700 year old oak trees with trunks that are almost 1.5 meters in diameter. And that’s not all, for history buffs there is the Mansion house itself, a fantastic example of the Neoclassical style of architecture that was so popular in Lithuania in the late 18th/ early to mid 19th century.
