Step into the very heart of Vilnius Old Town, where the architectural ensemble of the Vilnius University Museum unfolds nearly five centuries of history. This university ensemble comprises 13 courtyards that chronicle tales from the age of the first Lithuanian Jesuit monastery to luminaries like the legendary Polish-Lithuanian poet Adam Mickiewicz. Today, its courtyards are always buzzing with students and curious visitors alike.
The crown jewel of the ensemble is St. John's Church. Once a parish shrine, it later became an integral part of the Jesuit-founded University. Visit in June, and you might be lucky enough to witness graduation ceremonies in this hallowed space.
Adjacent to the church rises the Renaissance-Baroque bell tower. Venture up, either by elevator or via 193 steps, to an observation deck that offers a breathtaking panorama. The ground floor hosts the "Vilnius University and the World" exhibition, and a floor above houses the country's only Foucault Pendulum.
