This festival runs the gourmet gamut of this delicious little fish, and offers attendees fishing competitions and memorable concerts of local sea shanties and fisherman songs.
The resort town of Palanga is also home to one of the most unique winter festivals, “Palanga Smelt”, which takes place at the end of February each year. What is Smelt you might ask - well, it’s a small and delicately flavored fish that is caught in plentiful numbers at this time of year. It also, surprisingly enough, smells a little like cucumber. For fish lovers, this is the perfect opportunity to run the gourmet gamut, and savor this delicacy in all its roasted, dried and smoked varieties.
