The red four-sided metal lighthouse of Šventoji was built in 1957, 780 metres from the sea. It is 39 metres high and has a signal range of 31 kilometres. Throughout its life, the Šventoji lighthouse has never been out for more than an hour. In 1964 it was equipped with a sound signal.

In 2000, the lighthouse underwent a major reconstruction and new and modern equipment was installed. The lighthouse is located near Šventoji Street and the area is fenced in. The aim is to create a modern and innovative lighthouse museum in Šventoji, which would be unique in the Baltic region. In 2019, Šventoji Lighthouse will be handed over by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania to the Municipality of Palanga. In 2021, the municipal budget will include funds for a technical project to make the lighthouse accessible to visitors. World Lighthouse Day is celebrated on 19 August and the lighthouse is open to visitors on this day.
