The Gate of Dawn Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy and St. Theresa’s Church
The image is also known as the Madonna of the Gate of Dawn or the Madonna of Vilnius. The many votive offerings left in the chapel reflect personal stories of hope and gratitude associated with the Lady of Mercy.
The Gate of Dawn Chapel is part of the European Network of Marian Shrines, which unites 20 significant sites honoring Mary in Europe.
In 1993, Pope John Paul II prayed the Rosary here together with pilgrims from Lithuania and abroad.
Located next to the Gate of Dawn Chapel is the Church of St. Theresa, built in the 17th century. The church is decorated with frescoes, while the main altar features the painting depicting the ecstasy of St. Theresa. The Church is considered one of the finest examples of early Baroque architecture in Vilnius.
