More information
Castellan’s House (Pilininko Namas) is the newest and most modern part of the National Museum of Lithuania. Instead of trying to woo you with yet another exhibition filled with archaeological artifacts or pieces of cultural heritage, this place focuses on the ideas that shaped Lithuania's identity and the people who made it real.

The museum is housed in a unique building with distinctive style and architectural elements. At first glance, Castellan's House resembles a common townhouse from the Gothic or Renaissance eras. More careful inspection reveals it to be so much more. It’s a classical beauty situated farther from the street and its noise, with a beautiful courtyard that’s ideal for those who would like to hide from the modern world for a short while and concentrate on the exploration of the past. At Castellan's House, this can be done by exploring one of six main themes: creativity, beliefs, struggles, fractures, global links, and faces. Each of these themes has its own dedicated room.

Strolling from one to the other, you will gain different perspectives on how the history of Lithuania and its people unfolded. Here, you will gain a better understanding of how being away from the great centers of civilization has affected Lithuania’s search for bridges to the world. You will learn more about how remaining pagan in a Christian world influenced our political and social development, discover our ancestors' political machinations that enabled them to assimilate new territories, gain new perspectives on Lithuania's historical social ""backwardness,"" discover the treasure trove of Lithuanian migration history, and finally get a better understanding of the people who made the idea of modern Lithuania possible.
