Sculpture "Fisherman's Daughters"
In 2016, the daily newspaper Lietuvos Rytas published an article in its "Bendraukime" (“Let’s talk”) column, revealing that the artwork, erected on the dunes in 1982, has another face. Lina Wahl, the niece of the sculpture's author, who lives abroad, told the editor that her aunt had revealed to her that the sculpture "Fisherman's Daughters" refers not to the titular young girls at all, but to the three Baltic states, with Lithuania in the middle. The countries are looking to the West for help in recovering from Soviet occupation. The sculpture on the dunes of Šventoji is the work that took the most effort from the artist. According to her niece, her aunt had to sketch it nine times. Then they were taken to Leningrad, where they were cast in metal, she said.
