More information
Thomas Mann spent three summers (1930-1932) in Nida. The summer house he vacationed at was reconstructed and it’s now a memorial museum. The exhibits inside have been created to acquaint visitors with the facts from the writer’s life and work, when he used to spend his summers in Nida.
Taking a walk through the town of Nida, you are struck by how many houses seem to carry a German influence, not surprising as the town was first part of Prussia, only to become part of the German Empire in the late 18th c. This deep connection has no greater expression than the fact that the German writer and Nobel prize laureate Thomas Mann spent three summers (1930-1932) with his family in Nida. In the 90s the summer house they vacationed at was reconstructed and it’s now a quaint and unique memorial museum. The exhibits inside have been created to acquaint visitors with the facts from the writer’s life and work, whilst recreating the atmosphere of the early 20th century when the writer used to spend his summers in Nida. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch chamber music concerts, literary discussions and seminars.
