Taking a walk through the town of Nida, you are struck by how many houses seem to carry a German influence, not surprising as the town was first part of Prussia, only to become part of the German Empire in the late 18th c.
Taking a walk through the town of Nida, you are struck by how many houses seem to carry a German influence, not surprising as the town was first part of Prussia, only to become part of the German Empire in the late 18th c. This deep connection has no greater expression than the fact that the German writer and Nobel prize laureate Thomas Mann spent three summers (1930-1932) with his family in Nida. In the 90’s the summer house they vacationed at was reconstructed and it’s now a quaint and unique memorial museum, where, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch chamber music concerts, literary discussions and seminars.
