Aukštaitija is known in Lithuania as the land of lakes. Scattered throughout this forested region, its lakes are often connected by short rivers and streams, perfect for kayaking. One such waterway is the Būka – a short 8 km river connecting Lakes Utenykštis and Baluošas. A journey down this stunningly beautiful river is an adventure that will forever remain in your memory.

The journey through Būka starts at Lake Utenykštis. From it, the river flows into picturesque forests, winding for 8 kilometers. The journey will require some effort – you'll encounter several fallen trees and other obstacles that will require you to get wet and carry your kayak over.

Būka eventually flows into Lake Baluošas. Take your time and explore it a bit longer. The ethnographic village of Šuminai stands on the left bank of the lake. There are also several islands in Baluošas. The largest of them – Ilgasalė – even has its own small lake with a stream.

You'll finish the journey in the nearby Lake Baluošykštis. The Ginučiai water mill stands on one of its shores. You'll notice it from afar – it's one of the most memorable symbols of Aukštaitija for good reason. It's the perfect place to rest after your journey, refresh yourself, and sum up all the day's impressions.
