Autumn
There’s a good reason why Kristijonas Donelaitis called one of the chapters of The Seasons “Autumn Boons“. This time of year was traditionally the reward for the hard work done in spring and summer.
In today’s world, however, people have become somewhat distanced from such “earthy“ matters. Few Lithuanians now spend their autumn months sowing or harvesting. Even the potato harvest and mushroom picking expeditions have become pastimes, rather than work. That being said, autumn still offers an excellent opportunity to get more closely in tune with nature. The changes that unfold over a period of three months are especially conspicuous and felt intimately by most. The best ways to have fun in the autumn are those that allow us to enjoy its plenty, while shifting into a lower gear and getting ready for the winter.
