Winter Garden in Kretinga

Kretinga might be best known for its Franciscan heritage, but the town’s winter garden, located in the former manor of the noble Tiškevičiai family, is well worth a visit. Soon after Count Juozapas Tiškevičius bought the Kretinga Manor in 1875, the garden became the largest private conservatory in Europe. Today, visitors can admire 5,000 exotic plants, including banana trees and a collection of cacti. With chattering canaries, relaxed turtles and Japanese carps playing in a fountain like puppies, the winter garden is a perfect place to spend an afternoon all year round.
