Very much a one of a kind experience, the Dionizas Poška museum’s main exhibits are its two large hollowed out tree trunks which were fashioned in the 19th century into exhibition rooms. Each trunk, carved from ancient oaks and about the size of a small cabin, has been hollowed out and had a small roof placed on top (they very much resemble giant mushrooms!). Inside each, you’ll find an interesting, if disparate collection of artifacts. The work of the museum’s namesake, a renowned poet, historiographer and lexicologist of the early 18th c, these “hollowed trunks” are now protected from the elements by a glass structure and really do have the appearance of something out of a fairytale, with their neat windows and door. The museum’s environs are also worth exploring, you’ll find a lake, tracks and other buildings to visit.
