Autumn Equinox in Lithuania
Lithuania
Autumn
As a former agricultural society, Lithuania still celebrates autumn equinox with bustling farmer's markets, effigy burning, and traditional music and dance.
Around the autumn equinox, falling toward the end of September, markets selling harvested goods are organized, and traditional straw sculptures are erected, then burned accompanied by the throng of traditional songs and folk music. One of the best places to see this effigy burning is the banks of the Neris in Vilnius, the capital.
