A world under the sea in Klaipėda
When the weather is good, the locals of Klaipėda often take the ferry to Smiltynė – the port city’s greenest corner. Located on the other side of the Curonian Lagoon, it boasts white sandy beaches, fragrant pine forests, and plenty of great spots for a walk along the waterfront.

And if you’re more in the mood for exploring maritime history and the fascinating world under the sea more generally, why not start with the northern side of Smiltynė. There you’ll find a display of veteran ships and an ethnographic fisherman’s homestead that will transport you back to the 19th century.
Last but not least, make sure you give some time to the Lithuanian Sea Museum – the country’s most popular. Here you can explore as many as 88,563 individual exhibits, watch a dolphin or sea lion performance (during summer months), learn about navigation history, or take a guided tour. The museum even has an escape room, built on its ship M52 Sūduvis, that imitates a mine-hunting operation!
