Cold War Museum near Plungė

During the Cold War arms race, Soviets built an underground military base by the village of Plokščiai, near Plungė. Between 1963 and 1978, four mediumrange ballistic missiles SS4 were deployed there, armed with twomegaton thermonuclear warheads and aimed at Western Europe. Today, the former base is open for visitors and hosts a Cold War museum. You can see the underground labyrinth of missile silos and buff up your knowledge of the Cold War period, propaganda strategies, consequences of the nuclear explosions, and life at a military base.
