Dominated today by long stretches of pristine silver beaches, huge swathes of shifting dunes, and thick and diverse forestation, the Curonian Spit is a true wonder of nature. Among the most impressive spots is the Nagliai Nature Reserve, located between the villages of Juodkrantė and Pervalka.

Among the most impressive spots is the Nagliai Nature Reserve, located between the villages of Juodkrantė and Pervalka. The reserve’s educational trail is a fascinating 1.2kilometre route leading to the Grey Dunes, also known as the Dead Dunes. Starting at the Smiltynė–Nida road and meandering through sparse forest, it is a combination of natural sandy paths and wooden boardwalks that take you to walk over villages swallowed by the once shifting sands, and lead to a small observation tower that offers a magnificent view of the Curonian Lagoon.
