While still part of Lithuania, the region has preserved its own unique identity, dialect, and culture over the centuries, and even has its own flag. The Samogitians were the last pagan tribes in Europe to be baptised, and the altars of their old faith, which revolved around sacred fire, can still be found on hill forts in the region. If you are on the Lithuanian coast, why not take the opportunity to visit one of the most mysterious parts of Lithuania, which features signs of Baltic mythology, a unique legacy from the cold war, and local folk culture.
