Vytautas Valiušis Ceramics Museum and Art Centre
Established over 20 years ago, Vytautas Valiušis Ceramics Museum and Art Centre is dedicated to showcasing the talent of different Lithuanian craftsmen and the evolution of the craft itself. In addition to such everyday items as vases and candlesticks, the museum’s collection also features unique decorative and auteur masterworks. Looking at them arranged next to each other you’ll notice how their forms and other characteristics differ based on their regional point of origin. For instance, jugs made in Aukštaitija are typically elongated, those produced in Žemaitija – potbellied, while their counterparts in Suvalkija are distinguished by a ridge near the bottom. For variety’s sake, the ceramic artefacts, some of which are more than 100 years old now, are interspersed with beautiful wood carvings, archaic pestles, and paintings. You can try your hand at pottery making here, and see how ceramics are decorated, fired and glazed.
