The capital city Vilnius

Get to know Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, by exploring its Old Town – the largest in the Baltics. From gorgeous mediaeval and early-modern architecture to bohemian haunts, ample greenery, and Cold War relics – Vilnius has all of this, and more!
All about Vilnius

What first-time visitors often notice first upon arriving in Vilnius is the large number of parks, squares, tree-lined sidewalks, and other green spaces. It’s no wonder the city has been slated to become the European Green Capital 2025! Vilnius, and especially its Old Town, also boasts a wide assortment of architectural gems, ranging in style from Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque and Neoclassical. And this, by the way, has been recognised in Europe for centuries. For instance, when visiting the city during the Franco-Russian War in 1812, Napoleon is said to have fallen in love with the Gothic-style Church of St. Anne, which he wanted to bring back to Paris “in the palm of his hand”.

For a truly 360° view of Vilnius, make sure to also take a stroll in Užupis – the capital’s smallest quarter, known for its unique artsy spirit – and explore the city’s Cold War heritage at the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights, located in a former KGB prison.
