Discover the mysteries of the Curonian Spit

Step into the Dead Dunes – one of the most mysterious locations on the Curonian Spit – and explore the enchanting landscape of the Baltic desert, strewn across with tiny fishing hamlets swallowed up centuries ago by implacable shifting sands.
More information

The hiking trail of the Nagliai Nature Reserve, located between Juodkrantė and Pervalka, winds along a natural and then a wooden path, terminating at the White Dunes. The last leg of the journey will take you across the sand, traversing a desert-like landscape. Along the way you’ll also have to navigate the Dead Dunes, called such because their shifting motion was stopped by erecting a protective ridge and seeding it with deep-rooted plants. This made it, effectively, “dead”.

A round trip will take about 1.5 hours, during which time you’ll get to inspect multiple information stands, take in the magnificent views of the Curonian Lagoon from elevated viewpoints, and take a breather at several rest stops. Don’t miss your opportunity to enjoy a stroll along one of the most awe-inspiring trails in Lithuania, leading you through a UNESCO-protected territory.
