Lake Plateliai is Žemaitija’s best-kept secret. The largest and deepest lake in the region is known both for its geographical features and rich cultural heritage. A peaceful kayak ride is the perfect way to get to know Plateliai, enjoy stunning views, and admire an incredible sunset.

Plateliai is a lake of glacial origin which is primarily distinguished by its islands. There are seven of them in total. Each one can boast some unique characteristics. For example, Briedsalė (Moose Island) got its name from the moose that used to visit here (though nowadays beavers reign supreme), while on Veršių Island (Calf Island), farmers used to graze their livestock.

The richest in history, however, is Castle Island. As its name suggests, a nobleman's castle stood here in the late Middle Ages. Archaeologists have discovered many important findings here. Today, the island belongs to rare species of plants and mushrooms rather than to people.

Even if you’re not a pro, you can easily reach all of Plateliai's islands easily. Don’t forget to pack lunch, as you’d be missing out on a perfect picnic spot. The islands will amaze you with perfect views of nature, so make sure your phone has enough free space – you'll need it for all the photos you'll take.
