Lithuania’s gastronomic scene has attracted the experts of the prestigious Falstaff guide

News about top-level hospitality experiences in Lithuania will spread even more widely around the world. Lithuania has been included in the scope of analysis by Falstaff magazine – one of the most influential European publications covering food and beverage culture, gastronomic experiences, and travel.

“Europe is increasingly discovering and appreciating Lithuania’s uniqueness and the meaningful partnerships we are building, which strengthen our country’s culture and identity. Lithuania’s distinctiveness is reflected in the boldest forms of creativity, the most advanced innovations, and ambitious projects that raise our country’s profile internationally. Gastronomic culture has become one of Lithuania’s most prominent breakthroughs – a vivid testament to our talent, craftsmanship, and creativity, increasingly attracting gourmets and travelers from across Europe and the world,” says Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation Guoda Burokienė.

According to the Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Lithuania continues its success story, which a couple of years ago was marked by inclusion in the Michelin Guide, while the Lonely Planet travel guide named Lithuania the second-best travel destination in the world. Last year, Lithuania shone even brighter on the gastronomic tourism map when the Bocuse d'Or competition – often referred to globally as the Olympics of gastronomy – was held in our country for the first time.

“We are receiving increasing confirmation and recognition that Lithuania has come an impressive way in developing and nurturing its hospitality culture, creating space for top-level chefs and their teams to showcase their talent and creativity. We are becoming a stage for memorable discoveries for gastronomic tourists and other visitors for whom food and beverages are an important part of the travel experience. The new partnership with Falstaff Nordics will strengthen Lithuania’s visibility internationally and in our target markets, where we are actively promoting our country’s progress and uniqueness,” says Olga Gončarova, Head of Lithuania Travel.

Preparation of a comprehensive review and awards ceremony

The magazine, which has been published for more than 40 years, is entering Lithuania with a commitment to evaluate and present the country’s best venues: restaurants, hotels, street food spaces, wine and cocktail bars, cafés, bakeries, and markets. The Falstaff team will provide independent ratings, insightful guides, and an in-depth editorial review. O. Gončarova describes this as an opportunity for Lithuania’s hospitality sector to learn from the very best and continue moving forward smoothly.

According to the Head of National tourism promotion agency Lithuania Travel, this decision by the international publisher to enter Lithuania highlights the connections between the Baltic and Nordic regions, which are uniquely reflected in gastronomic traditions and interpretations, as well as in hospitality and service standards.

Falstaff experts have already taken note of the rapid and dynamic development of Lithuania’s culinary scene, its vibrant café and bakery culture, and innovative street food concepts.

As one of the key highlights of the initiative, O. Gončarova points to the Falstaff awards ceremony in Vilnius, planned for the end of March this year. On the occasion of the event, the magazine’s team will prepare a series of publications presenting the award winners, a list of Lithuanian restaurants, a curated coffee guide, and recommended places for visitors, thus providing a comprehensive overview of the country’s gastronomic landscape.

The selection of Lithuanian restaurants will also be included in the upcoming Falstaff Restaurant Guide Nordics and featured in Falstaff magazine as well as on its digital platforms.

Falstaff publisher Wolfgang Rosam is convinced that Lithuania is ready to step into the spotlight. Meanwhile, Tove Oskarsson Henckel, Editor-in-Chief of Falstaff Nordics, notes that Lithuania is actively engaging in and undoubtedly enriching the Nordic culinary conversation. “The country has developed a truly vibrant and rapidly evolving restaurant scene that combines a strong local identity with creative ambition. We see enormous potential and are eagerly looking forward to presenting Lithuania’s dynamic gastronomy to an international audience,” says T. Oskarsson Henckel.

The history of Falstaff magazine began in 1982 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Over the decades, it has grown into one of Europe’s most influential publications covering wine, gastronomy, and travel.
